A quick announcement to inform Vancouverites interested in typography, a special film screening hosted at Blim in Chinatown will take place Friday, January 21, 2011.
The film is the Vancouver Premier of Justine Nagan's Typeface (2009) - A Chronicle of Typography in the Digital Age and Dying Art of Timeless Craftsmanship.
This event is hosted by Blim at 115 Pender St. E, Vancouver in the heart of Chinatown, and while the Alcuin Society is not officially involved in the event, we heartily recommend the film! In order to accommodate as many as possible, Blim will be host TWO SCREENINGS Friday, January 21: 7:30pm & 9:30pm. Please note there is limited seating (a capacity of about 30 people per screening) and as such, there are no advance tickets. Arrive early!

Nagan's “Typeface” has a tactile character that's unexpected. It's awe-inspiring enough to see racks and racks and racks of beautiful, aged, oiled, dated wood type, but Nagan observes; the museum's director flicks on circuit breakers as the day begins: thwock-thwock-thwock. It’s a fine example of how the past isn’t past. Best, it doesn't feel nostalgic, but appreciative of history, its weight and its wonder. “It's wood. How can you not like wood, right?”
